 Vocabulario sobre direcciones

 

En primer lugar, debes conocer un poco de vocabulario básico, para poder pedir direcciones, entenderlas y darlas. Algunas palabras que debes saber:

Por ejemplo:

• Go along the street until you reach the traffic lights.

• You will see construction on the road.

• The museum is about two blocks from here.

• I prefer going to the airport on the highway because it’s faster.

Algunas preposiciones de lugar y adverbios que pueden ser de ayuda:

Por ejemplo:

• My office building is just across from the mall

• Continue straight ahead for about a mile

• Is there any shopping mall near our hotel?

• There is a hospital and a school next to it

Pedir direcciones

Para pedir direcciones en inglés, lo primero que debes tener en cuenta son los modales. Recuerda que en muchas ocasiones serán desconocidos los que podrán ayudarte y si querés recibir una explicación amable, iniciar la conversación con un saludo es casi obligatorio.

Aprendé las distintas formas de saludar en inglés

Para esto puedes usar frases como:

* Excuse me → Disculpe o perdone

* Hello → Hola

* Good morning/ afternoon/ night → Buenos días/ tardes/ noches

Por ejemplo:

* Excuse me, could you help me? → Disculpe, ¿podría ayudarme?

* Hello! May I ask for some help? → Hola, ¿puedo pedirle su ayuda?

Ahora que llamaste la atención de alguna persona, es momento de pedir ayuda para llegar a tu destino. Estas frases te pueden ayudar:

* Could you tell me how to get to.. → ¿Podría decirme como llegar a...?

* Do you know where (the place) is? → ¿Sabe dónde está ...?

* Can you show me on the map? → ¿Puede mostrarme en el mapa?

* Where can I find the..?  → ¿Dónde puedo conseguir un/el ..?

Si no estas completamente seguro de ir en la dirección correcta, podés asegurarte preguntando lo siguiente:

* Are we on the right road to..? → ¿Estamos en el camino correcto hacia..?

* Is this the right way to..? → ¿Esta es la vía correcta para..?

* What is the best way to..? → ¿Cuál es la mejor vía para llegar a..?

Dar direcciones

Es probable que los extranjeros que visitan tu país, en algún momento necesiten pedir una dirección y qué mejor manera de practicar inglés que ayudándolos a llegar a su destino.

Acá te dejamos algunos phrasal verbs, útiles para dar direcciones en inglés

* Go past → Pasar por. Esto lo puedes decir para que la persona continúe hasta que pase algún punto de referencia que le des. Por ejemplo: You need to go past the library to get to the theater

* Go along → Continuar. Por ejemplo: Go along the street and you will see the museum.

* Go straight → Seguir derecho. Por ejemplo: Go straight until you get to the bus stop.

* Go through → Atravesar. Esto se suele decir si la persona debe atravesar un túnel o la ciudad. Por ejemplo: The airport is very far, you need to go through the city to get there

* Go out of → Salir. Por ejemplo: Take the next exit to go out of the highway

Otras frases útiles para complementar la dirección:

* You are going the wrong way → Vas en el sentido incorrecto

* Take this road → Toma esta calle

* Take the (first/second) on the (left/right) → Toma el (primer/segundo) cruce a la (derecha/izquierda)

* You will see a.. → Verás un.
